NRC acceptance of the application completes the fourth milestone in the DOE-USEC Agreement more than three months ahead of schedule. The June 2002 agreement includes a framework for USEC's deployment of advanced centrifuge technology.
Slated to begin operation in 2005, the American Centrifuge Demonstration Facility will contain a lead cascade of up to 240 centrifuge machines. As the basic building block of the commercial enrichment plant, the lead cascade will yield cost, schedule and performance data before USEC expects to begin construction of an American Centrifuge plant later in the decade. The commercial plant will support America's energy security and national security interests and provide a reliable, competitive fuel source for the world's nuclear power plants.
This news release contains forward-looking information (within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995) that involves risks and uncertainty, including certain assumptions regarding the future performance of USEC. Actual results and trends may differ materially depending upon a variety of factors, which are described in USEC's periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. These SEC filings are available on USEC's website www.usec.com.
