to American Centrifuge Project -BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2008--USEC Inc.'s (NYSE:USU) board of directors has appointed Russell B. Starkey to the position of vice president, American Centrifuge. Starkey had served as interim vice president, American Centrifuge, since February 2008 while continuing to serve as the Company's vice president, Operations.
Starkey is responsible for the deployment and commercial operations of USEC's next-generation uranium enrichment technology, the American Centrifuge, including the manufacturing of centrifuge machines by USEC's strategic suppliers. He will be based in Piketon, Ohio, where the Company operates the American Centrifuge Demonstration Facility and where the company has begun construction of the commercial American Centrifuge Plant. He will continue to report to Philip Sewell, senior vice president, American Centrifuge and Russian HEU.
Starkey has more than 35 years of nuclear industry experience. He held several management positions with Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) including general manager, Robinson Nuclear Plant; vice president, Brunswick Nuclear Plant; and ultimately vice president, nuclear services, over all of CP&L's nuclear plants. At USEC, he served as general manager of the Company's uranium enrichment plant in Paducah, Ky., before assuming his most recent position of vice president, Operations, in 2005. In that role, he oversaw the Company's uranium enrichment operations and government contract services work.
Starkey's former position of vice president, Operations, will not be filled immediately. Instead, the general managers of USEC's Paducah uranium enrichment plant and USEC Government Services in Piketon will report directly to Robert Van Namen, senior vice president, Uranium Enrichment, on an interim basis.
