USEC Elects Robert Van Namen Senior Vice President; Former Sales & Marketing VP Will Focus on Expanding Customer, Industry Relationships

BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 2003--USEC Inc. (NYSE:USU) announced today that Robert Van Namen has been elected senior vice president by the USEC Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2004. As senior vice president, Van Namen will expand his oversight of USEC's relationships with its customers and the nuclear power industry to ensure that the Company achieves the highest level of customer focus in all of its activities. Van Namen has served as USEC's vice president of marketing and sales since he joined the Company in 1999.

Earlier this year, USEC announced that it was accelerating by one year its initiative to construct and operate a new, $1 billion to $1.5 billion, state-of-the-art uranium enrichment plant using American Centrifuge enrichment technology. USEC expects that this plant, designed to meet the fuel needs of customers' current and future nuclear power reactors, will be the world's most efficient uranium enrichment facility.

Van Namen is a nuclear engineer with 20 years of experience in the nuclear power industry. Prior to joining USEC in January 1999, he was head of nuclear fuel management for Duke Energy. Van Namen earned his bachelor of science and master of science degrees at the University of Virginia. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of North Carolina.
