BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2005--USEC Inc. (NYSE:USU) announced today that Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Lisa Gordon-Hagerty is leaving the Company as it realigns the business to sharpen the focus on the demonstration and deployment of the American Centrifuge, while maintaining reliable and efficient enrichment operations.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Mellor said, "Lisa's experience in both government and the nuclear industry has been valuable to the Company, and we appreciate her significant commitment and contributions to USEC. The EVP/COO position held by Lisa was eliminated in our restructuring, so we understand completely Lisa's desire to move on."
Ms. Gordon-Hagerty said, "I am grateful to the Board for providing me the opportunity to lead the company's enrichment operations over the last two years. I know that my efforts and those of the outstanding USEC staff have contributed to improved shareholder value. It is my objective to continue pursuing strategic domestic and national security endeavors of which commercial nuclear energy is an important part."
While at USEC, Ms. Gordon-Hagerty was responsible for the Company's day-to-day operations, including oversight of production and regulatory affairs, and for NAC International since its acquisition in 2004.
Ms. Gordon-Hagerty joined USEC from the White House National Security Council (NSC) staff, where she served as director since 1998 for combating terrorism, overseeing the federal government's readiness and response to acts of terrorism. She also served as NSC's liaison to the Homeland Security Council.
Prior to joining the White House NSC staff, she served for six years at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), where she held positions overseeing several DOE programs including emergency management, operational emergency response and the safety of the country's nuclear weapons program. Prior to her tenure at DOE, she was a professional staff member of the Energy and Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
